Safe movement for people with high pressure
Most people with high blood pressure can walk safely. Start very slowly if your pressure is high or you take medicine. Warm up by walking gently for first few minutes. Cool down by slowing your pace at the end. Never push yourself to exhaustion or breathlessness.
Check your pressure before walking if it has been very high. If top number is over 180 or bottom over 110, rest and take medicine first. Talk to your doctor before starting if you have chest pain, severe shortness of breath, or dizziness. Most doctors strongly encourage daily walking for blood pressure control.
